Starting August 22, we’re expanding weekend live news coverage with the debut of WNYC’s The United States of Anxiety to the weekly radio line-up and the addition of BBC’s Newshour to WNYC-FM. We’re also shifting some programs and filling the Saturday evening 6-8pm slot left vacant after the recent announcement by American Public Media that they were ending production of Live From Here with Chris Thile.

Many of you may be familiar with The United States of Anxiety and host Kai Wright as a podcast, but now we’re moving the program to the radio schedule as a live Sunday evening broadcast at 6pm. The United States of Anxiety, explores the biggest questions of our times: who counts as an American, who is allowed to live here, who gets access to opportunity, and whose lives matter? Each Sunday, Wright and a team of WNYC reporters will offer a deep dive into the cultural, political and social spaces and stories where these issues are playing out, examine how our history got us here, explore the collective choices we face as a city and nation as well as take your calls.

We’re adding BBC’s Newshour to WNYC-FM Saturday and Sundays at 4 leading into All Things Considered at 5. In this time of a worldwide pandemic, the racial justice and equity movement, and upcoming U.S. elections, this will provide a wider window for catching up on the day’s news, every day.

In June, American Public Media announced they were ending production of Live From Here with Chris Thile. To fill that Saturday evening slot, It’s Been A Minute with Sam Sanders moves to 6pm and Fresh Air Weekend with Terry Gross follows at 7pm, creating a two-hour corner of engaging conversations with noteworthy and interesting guests leading into the engaging and noteworthy music of the American songbook on New Standards with Paul Cavalcante.

Finally, after an incredibly long run on WNYC, we decided to stop airing Joe Frank on WNYC-AM Sunday nights at 11. Joe passed away in 2018, and there have not been new programs produced for at least fifteen years, so it feels time to move on. You can still listen to the library of Joe Frank episodes at their website, www.JoeFrank.com.

Updated schedules for WNYC and NJPR stations posted below with changes highlighted.

We welcome your feedback and thoughts here.

As always, thank you for listening to WNYC Radio.
